This Cashew Chai Spiced Smoothie is so creamy with warming spices like cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and ginger. Ready in 5 minutes, this latte inspired smoothie for breakfast never looked so cozy!
I think it’s fair to say that’s it’s been a while since I posted a smoothie recipe. Well, get ready because there’s a few coming your way this season! Seeing how we’re easing into my favourite time of the year where I get to dig out my cozy sweaters and socks, I thought it only appropriate to break away from my usual green smoothies. Hence, the inspiration for this creamy delicious smoothie that’s perfect as a breakfast on-the-go or midday sippable snack. I love all the warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger and clove which to me just screams fall in a cup! Adding these traditional chai spices will naturally add sweetness and warmth to your smoothie while providing you with immune-boosting properties.
Secret Veggie Ingredient
What makes this smoothie super creamy is the combination of banana and cauliflower…yes…cauliflower! Now you might think that it’s a bit odd, but trust me, tossing frozen steamed cauliflower into your smoothie is a game-changer. Adding cauliflower instead of more bananas is a great way to lower the sugar content as well as boost more fiber, potassium and vitamin C into your smoothie. If you’re worried about the taste, don’t be.
The great thing about steamed cauliflower is that it’s pretty neutral and takes on the flavours surrounding it. What cauliflower does is add depth, creaminess, and umph to your smoothie and will keep you feeling fuller longer. The most important thing to remember when using cauliflower is to pre-steam them. This will keep the dreaded bloating and gas, often associated with this cruciferous veggie at a minimum. These days you can easily find frozen cauliflower at your local supermarket, but it’s pretty easy to steam and freeze your own. I have notes in the recipe card below for full instructions on how to prepare your cauliflower for smoothie blending.

- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground clove
- pinch of sea salt
- 1 medjool date pitted
- 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp raw ginger root
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup frozen cauliflower florets* (see notes below)
- 1/2 cup frozen banana
- toasted coconut flakes unsweetened
Add the cashews, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, clove. salt, date, vanilla and ginger root to a high-speed blender. Blend on high until smooth, for about 60 seconds.
Toss in the frozen cauliflower and frozen banana and blend for another 30 to 60 seconds until smooth and creamy.
Pour into 2 glasses and garnish with dried toasted coconut flakes and a dash of cinnamon.
*Notes To prep the cauliflower, fill the bottom of a large pot with 2 inches of water, add a steamer basket and bring the water to boil. Lower the heat to medium, add the cauliflower and cover. Steam for 7 to 9 minutes, until lightly steamed but still firm and crunchy (you don’t want them to be fully cooked and soft). Transfer the steamed cauliflower to a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow to cool completely. Place in the freezer and freeze for 1 to 2 hours. Remove the tray from the freezer and transfer the frozen cauliflower to a reusable freezer bag. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
