Coleen Rooney says Rebekah Vardy leaked private stories to The Sun – Business Insider

Coleen Rooney may be set for a career as an investigative journalist after her detective work apparently weeded out who was leaking her “false” private Instagram stories to a British tabloid.

Rooney, the wife of the DC United forward Wayne Rooney, said on social media on Wednesday that several of her private stories, including one about “gender selection” treatment in Mexico, had been sent to The Sun without her permission.

Rooney said she had identified the culprit: Rebekah Vardy, the wife of the Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy.

Rooney wrote in an Instagram post: “For a few years now someone who I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been consistently informing The SUN newspaper of my private posts and stories.”

She added: “To try and prove this, I came up with an idea. I blocked everyone from viewing my Instagram stories except ONE account.”

Rooney said that for five months she “posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into the Sun newspaper.”

“And you know what, they did!” she said. “The story about gender selection in Mexico, the story about returning to TV and then the latest story about the basement flooding in my new house.”

She added: “Now I know for certain which account / individual it’s come from. I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them.

“It’s … Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Shortly after Rooney published her post, Vardy responded with a post of her own, denying the accusation.

“I wish you had called me if you thought this,” she said. “I never speak to anyone about you as various journalists who have asked me to over the years can vouch for.”

She added: “I liked you a lot Coleen & I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant.”

Vardy is consulting her legal team about the accusation, her spokeswoman told The Independent.

The Sun did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment regarding the “false” stories it published.
