An Oklahoma lawmaker has filed legislation, hoping to make it easier for students with suicidal thoughts to get the mental help they need. The plan is to print the number for the National Suicide Prevention hotline and crisis text line on the back of each student’s school ID card.Rep. Mickey Dollen filed legislation Tuesday to try and make it happen. He said the idea isn’t a cure for mental health issues students might be facing, but it is a way for teens to easily connect with trained mental health professionals.“By making this number more prevalent and available to our school-age population, we can spread awareness on mental health issues, break down stigmas and encourage positive communications about mental health,” Dollen said.Suicide has quickly become one of the deadliest killers of teens and young adults.
